Smoking is proved to be a harmful habit killing many people around the world. We would like to provide you with information concerning smoking in Canada. In 2004-05, according to the Youth Smoking Survey (YSS), 21% of youth, in grades 5 through 9, reported ever trying any tobacco product (cigarettes, cigars or pipes, bidis, chewing tobacco and snuff). Smoking cigarettes was the most common form of tobacco product tried. Smoking is prohibited in many public places across Canada. Tobacco use is no longer socially acceptable as an activity among Canadians. You will not be able to see a smoker sitting in one hall with non-smokers in restaurants. In an increasing number of Canadian communities, there are by-laws in effect prohibiting smoking in restaurants and even bars. With the exception of the streets, you will find that smoking is restricted in most public areas. Very often they are marked with non-smoking signs.
